I'm going to get straight to the point... The Truman Show is a 10/Masterpiece/One of the Best Movies I've Ever Seen!

The Truman Show follows Truman Burbank (played by Jim Carrey), an insurance salesman/adjuster discovers his entire life is actually a television show.

This is seriously an amazing film that needs to be watched. According to IMDb it's number 188 on the 250 Best Movies of All Time... And I can see why.

The acting is probably some of the best I've ever seen and is very believable. Jim Carrey gives a great and real performance as Truman. He is a troubled man who covers his sad past and sad present by putting a smile on for those around him.

Laura Linney plays Meryl. Trumans wife who's obsessed with the latest and best things on the market and you never see her without a smile looking at the camera and directing her attention to the audience more than Truman himself.

Trumans best friend Marlon, played by Noah Emmerich, truly gives off the vibe of being a good friend who stands by what his friend thinks is real and not real. He also happens to be a very funny and light-hearted man.

And finally... The show creator, Christof, played by Ed Harris never smiles or laughs in the movie. He's a stone cold man who stands by making what he believes makes people happy (which shows considering how billions of people tune in to see what Truman is up to). He's a sinister man that'll do all he can to make sure the rating stay up... Along with his ego as being one of the smartest men in TV history.

The story/writing is unique and original with a quirky mood and a serious tension between Truman and the world around him. The story will make you laugh, cry, tense and cheer for Truman. The Oscar Nominated script was written by Andrew Niccol... And I see why.

The Oscar Nominated Director, Peter Weir, brings a fresh take into the underrated world or original films. He's able to direct humor, action and drama really well with the cast he has. He's able to show the funny side of Truman but also show is dramatic past and future that happens later in the film.

Speaking of directing... The cinematographer, Peter Biziou, uses wide, close-up and zoom-in shots really well when necessary. Wide shots are used when Truman realizes his on a TV show, he uses close-ups to get Truman's reaction to events and to show that there are 5,000 camera around him in every nook-and-crany. Truman will be talking under his desk and there's a close-up of Truman from the top right of the screen. When zoom-ins are used it's for comedic events. Whether it's the actors looking or talking to the audience about Product Placement it comes off as funny and a must have. The lighting is very bright (even when it's night time) to give off the effect that Truman's being watched by billions of people and they want to be able to see him. That's clever.

A major componet to any movie... The score... Is very absent from the film. There's only a few times that dramatic and epic music is used but it's for self awareness and humor of how dramatic shows can be. When action's going on it's either epic or hard to hear. Besides that there's not much music around Truman when he's alone. Giving off the vibe that he's like any other person. When you're in a sea storm, you don't hear music composed by Burkhard Dallwitz... You hear waves crashing (which the Sound Designers do very well).

I keep praising this film but are there any negatives? The only real complaint I have is that the film dragged in some areas. I know there's a couple Deleted Scenes that served no purpose so I'm glad the Editor, William Anderson, kept that out. That may be because it was 10:30 PM but still. It's only about and hour and 43 minutes so it's not very long.

Now the big aspect of this critical review... WOULD I RECOMMEND IT? The answer is HELL YES! This film is a movie I think most people would love. In a day and age where Hollywood is overrun by Cinematic Universes, Superhero Movies, Blockbusters and Sequels it's amazing to see a film that can stand on it's own, have social commentary on how we view reality TV and leave a big emotional impact in every shape in form. I laughed, I cried, I cheered, I was tense and all of the above.

Anyway...

"In case I don't see ya, good afternoon, good evening, and good night!"
